Biography
Jonathan Beyer is a baritone who has performed with several opera companies including Pittsburgh Opera, Dallas Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, Fort Worth Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, Opera Grand Rapids, The Chautauqua Institution, Tanglewood Music Center, Accademia Verdiana, and Teatro di Verdi. He performs a wide variety of repertoire including Marcello in LA BOHEME, Germont in LA TRAVIATA, Malatesta in DON PASQUALE, Papageno in DIE ZAUBERFLOTE, Count Almaviva in LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Belcore in L'ELISIR D'AMORE and Richard Nixon in NIXON IN CHINA. He has also appeared with the Chicago Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Lorin Maazel's Châvteauville Foundation, Chatam Baroque, Baton Rouge Symphony, Vermont Symphony, the Erie Philharmonic, the Southwest Michigan Symphony, the Netherlands Radio Orchestra, and the Festival at Aix-en-Provence.
Mr. Beyer was a National Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition. He was the 1st Place Winner at the Marian Anderson Prize for Emerging Classical Artists. He has also won the McCammon Competition, the Irma M. Cooper Competition, Violetta DuPont Competition, Rochester's Classical Idol, New Jersey Verismo Competition, Philadelphia Orchestra's Greenfield Competition, Astral Artist Auditions, Pittsburgh Concert Society Auditions, SAI Competition, American Opera Society Competition, the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation Competition, and the Bel Canto Foundation. He has also received awards from the Gerda Lissner Foundation, Jensen Foundation, Solti Foundation, Charles Lynam Competition, Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation, National Opera Association, Anna Sosenko Foundation, George Solti Foundation, Mario Lanza Foundation, Dresden Opera Competition, NATS, Giulio Gari Foundation, Palm Beach Opera, Jose Iturbi Foundation, Sullivan Foundation, Shreveport Singer of the Year, Liederkranz, Orpheus Competition, the Loren L. Zachary, Irene Dalis, and Neue Stimmen competitions.
An avid recitalist, Mr. Beyer has performed in recital with Craig Rutenberg, Mikael Eliasen, Kristin Okerlund, Marin Katz, and Brian Zeger. He has given recitals through the Vocal Arts Society, Marilyn Horne Foundation, Chicago Cultural Center, Judith Raskin Foundation, Bretlesmann Foundation, Pittsburgh Concert Society, Astral Artists, Huntsville Chamber Music Guild, Over the Rainbow Foundation and the Marian Anderson Foundation. He has degrees from the Curtis Institute of Music and the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
Upcoming engagements include L'HEURE ESPAGNOLE with Opera Frankfurt, Jonathan Dove's FLIGHT with Austin Lyric Opera, Schaunard in LA BOHEME with Hong Kong Opera, Morales in CARMEN with Opera Company of Philadelphia, Marcello in LA BOHEME with Central City Opera AND Ping in TURANDOT with the Dallas Opera. He will also be singing Malatesta in DON PASUALE with North Carolina Opera, Lescaut in MANON with Knoxville Opera, and Capitan Gardiner in MOBY DICK with San Diego Opera. Other upcoming concerts include a recital at Weill Hall with the Carnegie Hall Foundation, Mahler's KNABEN WUNDERHORN with Symphony in C, VIER ERNSTE GESÄNGE at the Philadelphia Brahms Festival, and National Chorale's CARMINA BURANA at Lincoln Center.
